SPECIAL MONTH FOR PRIESTLY VOCATIONS  - JULY

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

(By St John Paul II)

O loving and gracious God, Father of all, You bless Your people in every time and season and provide for their needs through Your providential care.  Your Church is continually in need of priests, sisters and brothers to offer themselves in the service of the gospel by lives of dedicated love.  Open the hearts of Your sons and daughters to listen to Your call in their lives.  Give them the gift of understanding to discern Your invitation to serve You and Your Church.  Give them the gift of courage to follow Your call.  May they have the spirit of young Samuel, who found fulfilment in his life when he said to You, “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.”  We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer.  Amen.

SPECIAL MONTH FOR PRIESTS - AUGUST

PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

 (By Saint Theresa of Lisieux)

O Jesus, eternal Priest, keep your priests within the shelter of your Sacred Heart, where none may touch them . Keep unstained their anointed hands, which daily touch your Sacred Body. Keep unsullied their lips, daily purpled with your Precious Blood. Keep pure and unearthly their hearts, sealed with the subline mark of the priesthood. Let your holy love surround them and shield them from the world's contagion. Bless their labours with abundant fruit and may the souls to whom they minister be their joy and consolation here and  in heaven  their beautiful and everlasting crown. Amen.

DEVOTIONAL PRAYERS

THE CHAPLET OF REPARATION

or Offering of the Precious Blood for Priests

(This Chaplet of reparation and intercession is meant to be prayed on an ordinary five decade rosary.)

Incline + unto my aid, O God; O Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Alleluia.

(After Septuagesima: Praise be to Thee, O Lord, King of eternal glory.)

(On the ‘Our Father’ beads):

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Precious Blood of Thy Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb without blemish or spot,

in reparation for my sins and for the sins of all Thy priests.

(On the ‘Hail Mary’ beads):

By Thy Precious Blood, O Jesus, purify and sanctify Thy priests.

(In place of the ‘Glory be to the Father’):

O Father, from whom all fatherhood in heaven and earth is named,

have mercy on all Thy priests, and wash them in the Blood of the Lamb.

Let Us Pray

O Virgin Mary, my Mother of Perpetual Help, my hands are in Thy hands, and my heart is in Thy heart, and this forever. O sweet Virgin Mary, I am thy child. Keep my hands in Thy hands and my heart in thy heart all throughout this day and even during the night. So do I want to live and die. Amen.

                      VISIT TO THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

PRAYER TO JESUS IN THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT

I place myself in the presence of Him, in whose Incarnate Presence I am before I place myself there. I adore Thee, O my Saviour, present here as God and man, in soul and body, in true flesh and blood. I acknowledge and confess that I kneel before that Sacred Humanity, which was conceived in Mary's womb, and lay in Mary's bosom; which grew up to man's estate. and by the Sea of Galilee called the Twelve, wrought miracles, and spoke words of wisdom and peace; which in due season hung on the cross, lay in the tomb, rose form the dead and now reigns in heaven. I praise, and bless, and give myself wholly to Him, who is the true Bread of my soul and my everlasting joy. Amen.

OR

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT FROM A DISTANCE

Lord Jesus Christ, although I cannot, during this hour, approach Thee physically in the Sacrament of Thy love, I would approach Thee by desire and by faith. Transport me, I beseech Thee, by the lifting up of my mind and heart, to that tabernacle in the world where Thou art, at this hour, most forsaken, utterly forgotten, and without human company. Let the radiance of Thy Eucharistic Face so penetrate my soul that by offering Thee adoration and reparation, even as I am busy doing ordinary things in an ordinary way, I may obtain from Thy Sacred Heart, all the necessary blessings for your priests and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood all over the world. Amen.

                                 PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

O Jesus I implore your divine assistance for your faithful and fervent priests; for your unfaithful and tepid priests; for your priests labouring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for your lonely and desolate priests; for your young priests; for your dying priests; for the souls of your priests in purgatory.

But above all, I commend to you the priests dearest to me; the priest who baptised me; the priest who absolved me from my sins; the priest at whose Masses I assisted and gave me your Body and Blood in Holy Communion; the priest who taught and instructed me; all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way. O Jesus, keep them all close to your Sacred Heart, and bless them abundantly in time and eternity. Amen.

Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests. Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments. Help our priests to be strong in their vocation. Set their souls on fire with love for your people. Grant them the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom. Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel. Allow them to experience joy in their ministry. Help them to become instruments of your divine grace.   PRAYER FOR PRIESTS TO OUR BLESSED MOTHER MARY

                                        (By St John Paul II)

Mother of Jesus Christ and Mother of priests, accept this title which we bestow on you to celebrate your motherhood and to contemplate with you the priesthood of your Son and of your sons, O holy Mother of God. Mother of Christ, to the Messiah Priest you gave a body of flesh through the anointing of the Holy Spirit for the salvation of the poor and the contrite of heart; guard priests in your heart and in the Church, O Mother of the Saviour. Mother of Faith, you accompanied to the Temple the Son of Man, the fulfilment of the promises given to the fathers; give to the Father for his glory the priests of your Son, O Ark of the covenant. Mother of the Church, with the disciples in the Upper Room you prayed to the Holy Spirit for the new people and their shepherds; obtain for the Order of Presbyters a fullness of gifts, O Queen of the Apostles.

Mother of Jesus Christ, you were with him at the beginning of his life and of his mission, you sought the Master among the crowd, you stood beside him when he was lifted up from the earth consumed as the one eternal sacrifice, and you had John close by you, your son; accept from the beginning those who have been called, protect their growth, accompany your sons in their life and their ministry, O Mother of Priests. Amen.
